About Us

Welcome to The Fitch Company, where you’ll find experienced, electrical and control systems engineers, field technicians, designers and drafters ready to meet varied engineering challenges or handle projects, from concept through start-up and record documentation completion.

Our unique hands-on field-oriented approach to both engineering and drafting services results in the highly efficient and successful installation and start-up of any system. We have personnel continuity as can be seen by the years served by each employee. This low turnover allows our customers to contact us regarding systems installed 25 years or more ago to obtain pertinent information. Although The Fitch Company seems small at 30 employees, we are a key player considering we focus all of our expertise on electrical and control systems.

Our UL 508 panel fabrication shop allows us to manage all facets of your project, from conception to startup. We design and assemble a custom control panel solution that meets our clients exact specifications. We have extensive experience in assisting industrial facilities to create their functional specifications to optimize their process.

The Fitch Company can provide services ranging from system documentation to engineering a major DCS control system upgrade or replacement. We understand the importance of exacting design, documentation, and coordination — and we appreciate the value of clear communication across the project with all your key personnel, every step of the way.

At The Fitch Company, our success is proven by your success.

Our Founder

May 4, 1937 – May 5, 2012
The Fitch Company Founder, John Fitch was born in Earling, W.V. and grew up in southeastern Ohio. He graduated from high school in 1955 and then enlisted in the Navy. He entered one of the service’s technical training programs and became an electronic technician. He was honorably discharged in 1958.

John FitchJohn

After his military obligation was fulfilled, John went to work for Nueleonics. By 1967, John and Nicole were married and had started a family. He was hired by St. Regis Paper Company to work in the engineering department at the Bucksport, Maine paper mill. In 1984 he was ready for a change and left the mill which had been bought out by Champion International.

Within two years after leaving Champion, John decided to start his own engineering firm. In July of 1986 he founded THE FITCH COMPANY as a two-person firm doing engineering consulting in Bangor, Maine. He initially specialized in electrical and process control systems for the pulp and paper industry. His firm expanded steadily, weathered a painful recession in 1990 and opened offices as far away as Alabama. He retired in 2003 and sold the firm to one of its long-time employees, senior project engineer Mark Bolduc. Under Bolduc the firm has continued to thrive and expand into other industries in need of electrical engineering and automation services.

Our History

The Fitch Company was founded by John Fitch in July 1986. It was established as a pulp and paper engineering consulting firm.

In 1991, the company hired chief financial officer Ronald St. Pierre to manage the business office resulting from the company growth. The company was incorporated in January 1992 and the corporate office was located in Bangor. The operation had grown into an engineering firm employing over 25 engineers, draftspeople, and technicians.

The dynamic in the pulp and paper industry changed in the 90’s and 00’s. As a result, the company has broadened its base into other industries. We currently serve industries in power generation and distribution, natural gas, bio-fuels, food and beverage, pulp, paper and wood products.

John Fitch retired and sold the company to long time employee, engineer Mark Bolduc, in January 2004. Today, three offices are located in Bangor, Gray and Rumford, Maine. This includes a fully functioning UL508A control panel fabrication ship in our Rumford facility.
